When I upgraded Yosemite yesterday version 10.10.3, Photos was installed and I Photo deleted.
When I open Photos, I only have 24 pictures instead of the thousands that should be there.
Where are they and how do I get them back?
I have tried accessing I Photo but the icon is faded out with an "x" over it.
iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.3)
iPhoto was not deleted. It will still be in your Applications folder.
Launch Photos with the Option key held down, click on Other Library if needed, and choose the correct one.
If you'd rather use iPhoto instead but it won't launch, click here and try following the instructions.

The icon is in my application folder but will not open. Thanks though. The other solution of opening Photos and holding down the Option key worked.
Where are my photos? (after upgrading Yosemite)
