Best end user viewing video format for storage

Im planning in using final cut pro X 10.2.1 to capture all my mini DV tapes and some HDV tapes that i have and store them digitally in my NAS system. The real question is what video format or codes is best for this. thanks for the help i am a bit outdated using final cut pro

If you avoid the more highly compressed codecs, I think I would stay with DV/DVC Pro and/or HDV. Others may advise Pro Res, which is a great editing codec (actually a family of codes) but it is a proprietary codec and DV and HDV should be widely compatible for sometime.


As for your project settings, I would suggest you stay with the default (automatic).
