Publisher-like app for Mac

Hi everyone!

I am a student writing my thesis for my final exams, and I'd need a Publisher-like software for organising the layout and give some sort of professional appearance to my document. For example, I'd like to insert particular images (without messing up all the time with the other content of the page...), possibly add some cool background and/or objects that repeats on every page (as lines/logos on header or footer)...

I'm rather new on Mac, so I don't know any good software for doing this... except for Pages that I am using right now, but I don't know if it will be the best one for the "professional layout" thing... I tried with Word but it wasn't exactly a success.

Does anyone know a good, possibly cheap, software that would suit my needs? Or should I go on with Pages as I am doing now?

Try Microsoft word or keynote.

I've already tried MS Word and it's quite messy for long documents with a lot of pictures... I'm using Keynote for the slideshow of my thesis, but I also have a "on paper" part to arrange and Keynote is not practical for that use...

Well I do like Pages, but I don't know if it will be the best app for managing the layout of the document... I am rather new on Mac, I have never organised a elaborate document on Pages... So I was wondering if it's good for doing that or if some other apps are better

You can download the Microsoft Office 2016 Preview for free. It includes Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote. You can also download OneNote for free from the Mac App store. Just sign in/create a Microsoft account and you'll be all set.

I already have the preview, It works nice but Word tends to mess up documents with many images and it sometimes crashes... I don't want to risk to lose my work. It already happened me once with another thesis and it was a nightmare.

I've downloaded the trial, if it works good for my purposes I'll consider buying it
