Q: Update My Photostream in Photos

I updated to OS X Yosemite a few days ago and in the process lost iPhoto. I had My Photostream set up to sync photos from all my devices. I noticed that there is a My Photostream folder in the new Photos app too, but it doesn't update. The photos I took with my iPhone since the OS X update and since iPhoto was replaced by Photos have not yet been synced to My Photostream on my Mac, although I can see them on my iPhone and my iPad in the My Photostream folder.

How can I get this to work again (without having to pay for iCloud online storage)?

MacBook Pro (15-inch Mid 2012), Mac OS X (10.3.x)

iPhoto and iPhoto Library remain on your drive and work as before. No images have been lost.

You did not lose iPhoto - it was removed form the Dock but is still in your Applications folder - you dee need version 9.6.1 - if you were not up to date whiny updated the OS see Can't Update iPhoto because it is not available in the App Store

Where in Photos are you seeing a MyPhotoStream folder? I am not aware of such a folder unless you had set one up your self in iPhoto

In any case there is no place in Photos that shows Photo Stream Photos separately - they are in their place in collections (photos view) and in all photos

You can do a smart album for camera is [your iPhone] which will give you an updated view of photos downloaded from it

MyPhotoStream does not use iCloud storage and you do not need to pay for it

Thanks, I didn't realize that I could still work with iPhoto. Yet I would like to work with Photos too, I just would like to see updates to My Photostream there as well.

When I go to the Albums tab, the third album I see is My Photo Stream. See screenshot.

I also read on The Verge that it's still possible to use My Photo Stream with the Photos app, it just didn't say how:

" If you don't want to try iCloud Photo Library, you can keep using the new Photos app as an iPhoto replacement, but you'll be stuck with the old My Photo Stream feature (and its odd restrictions) for syncing photos across your devices."

    Any tips would be welcome.

Just enable it in Photos preferences > iCloud (& if necessary on your other Macs and/or i-devices). See My Photo Stream FAQ - Apple Support for details.
