Export draws to much power?

While exporting from Premiere Pro CC, my battery backup starts to buzz and then shuts the computer down hard. This is the only time it does this. This just started today. Any help would be great. Battery backup is brand new as well.

Here are my specs:

2008 Mac Pro Tower

2x3.2ghz Quad Core Intel Xeon

22gb 800Mhz DDR2 FB-DIMM

NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT 512mb

OS X Yosemite 10.10.3

Thanks,

Adam

Mac Pro 2008 technical specifications:

Electrical and environmental requirements

  • ENERGY STAR configurations available6
  • Line voltage: 100-120V AC or 200-240V AC (wide-range power supply input voltage)
  • Frequency: 50Hz to 60Hz single phase
  • Current: Maximum of 12A (low-voltage range) or 6A (high-voltage range)
  • Operating temperature: 50° to 95° F (10° to 35° C)
  • Storage temperature: -40° to 116° F (-40° to 47° C)
  • Relative humidity: 5% to 95% noncondensing
  • Maximum altitude: 10,000 feet

12 Amps at 120 Volts gives a maximum power DRAW of 1,440 Watts.

That UPS is not adequate to run your machine. Return it for one that can handle the AC power DRAW, not the DC power supplied by the Mac's Internal Power Supply.

The numbers I derived above (12 Amps times 120Volts yields 1440 Volt-Amps, not Watts. The hatter's assessment of how much is required is correct. My estimate is too large (because I conflated Volt-Amps with Watts, which is not quite right. The 'rule of thumb' estimate -- 2/3 the Volt-Amps yields an approximation of Watts in typical uses).

This readable article discusses the difference and a useful 'rule of thumb' for converting between Volt-Amps and Watts. As The hatter noted, both terms are used in describing AC power supply and UPS capacity, but are slightly different.
