My 2010 iMac won't read DVD, CD (files or music) OK

I insert a DVD... tries to read it, then spits it out.

I tried a CD with files on it. Fine.

I tried a CD with music on it. Fine

Just DVD's.

I have done the restart thing, same outcome.

Googled regarding this and it seems a common problem. Is the fix easy?
