I am locked in word with a little colored ball spinning around. Its been doing overnight and I cant get out!

Thanks GB, I found to go to apple at top left corner of screen and force quit from there,now just sorting all the documents it opened! All of yesterdays stuff.

OK, I wasn't sure whether you would have access to the menus, so that is why I suggested the keystroke shortcut to do it. If you ever find yourself in a situation where you want to Force Quit, but you cannot access the menu, the Option+Command+ESC will work.

Yep, Option + Command + ESC. I revert to the old Microsoft Control + Alt + delete !!
I must remember Option + Command + ESC.
I might have to put a sticky on my screen until it sinks into my head!
