how to uninstall osx mavericks? As i am not able to update my iPhoto am wondering if i could uninstall the whole software because i do not want to lose my pictures.
What do you want to install if you remove Mavericks? You should not lose any photos as they are kept in your Pictures folder independent from iPhoto. You can always reinstall Mavericks if you feel there is an OS issue. Did you try to update iPhoto in the app store?

Have you ever backed up your hard drive? If not, get an external drive and start backing up your system HD. You can also back up just the photos to an external drive.
What is occurring when you do try to update iPhoto? Any error messages?
Are you sure you're on Maverics, rather than Yosemite? Check in About this Mac via the Apple menu.
