How to remove photos that were not selected to be synced?

I have photos on my iPad from some of the photo app albums on my mac. These albums were not selected for syncing in iTunes and I have not set up an iCloud Photo Library, a Photo Stream or iCloud Photo Sharing. I believe I have checked all settings on my iPad. I am stumped as to why the photos are there and why I can't delete them.

Any thoughts on how to correct this?

Thanks!

The most likely way that they got there was by accidentally selecting them to sync and then syncing. If they were actually synced to the iPad, the have to be unsynced to be removed. Connect the iPad to your Mac, launch iTunes, select your iPad under devices, click on the Photos tab, deselect those albums, events or folders in the Copy Photos From drop down menu, and then follow that with a syncs
