HELP! icloud changed my ID and I can't link it to phone!

I reset my password on icloud and it asked if I wanted to link my email to my ID. I clicked OK and it changed my icloud ID! I had a ****@icloud.com ID and now my icould is a ****@aol.com. (yes, I'm old) I can't change it back and my iphone is linked to the "old" ID.
