UPS shutdown, RAID degraded

I have an APC UPS connected to my Mac via USB. I've got the Energy Saver panel set to do a shutdown when the UPS has <5% of power. Yesterday this happened, and when the power came back and I brought the machine back up, I noticed that the Console's last message was

5/29/15 7:37:42.174 AM UPS[63225]: Shutting down due to power loss!

which is good, but then I found out that my RAID had gotten degraded. I guess this shutdown wasn't as graceful as it should have been! Should there have been more messages after that one - maybe the power ran out before it finished shutting down?
