I upgraded to iOS 8.3 and within 20 minutes the phone now says "searching" and will not connect to the phone network. The sim card is fine. I have read that a factory restore might solve it but my phone is unlocked! Any ideas?

The fact that you phone is unlocked has nothing to do with this... Try restoring and setting up as new... If you restore from a backup you'll bring any software issues right back to the phone.
