Music not "dropping" to iPad

Hello!

So, I'm trying to copy so,e new albums I have burned from CD into iTunes onto my iPad, where I keep all my music. I have everything in iTunes set to mental management so I can just drag and drop what I want to copy across.

i Have tried a few times in the last few days and I can't get the music to drop to my ipad where where I keep all my music. The process I am following is

open iTunes

plug in iPad, wait for iPad icon to appear

highlight album

drag to iPad icon

wait for "my iPad" to highlight to signal this is where it is being dropped to

"preparing to update iPad" appears on top bar and runs course

when I eject and unplug iPad the music has not been copied and it has deleted all the album artwork from all the other albums on my iPad. Also to clarify, the memory is not full or anything.

alwo so when I drag to iPad it doesn't give me an option in. The drop down menu to drop to "music". Just "my ipad" and "playlists".
