Q: My phone won't update or restore.why?

when i try to update it It says error and when I try to restore it it says to update then restore but I can restore If it wont let me update it.

iPhone 5s, iOS 8.1.2

Reporting what the error is exactly would help. Also, if you see anything else on the screen what do you see?

All I see now is black screen with the iTunes logo and to connect charger

You're device is in Recovery Mode. See the instructions in this support document. If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
