I wish to continue using iPhoto but when attempting to open iPhoto I get a message that I need to upgrade iPhoto for compatibility with Yosemite. The App Store has no such upgrade. Anyone else have this problem? I want my "events" back.

Applications folder > utilities folder - double click on the library upgrader and run it - then launch iPhoto
I don't have a Library Upgrader in the Utilities Folder -- a search for "Library Upgrader" on my computer came up with no result.
The Library Updater is for older versions of iPhoto to newer versions of iPhoto, not Photos!
Did you migrate to Photos? Do you have a Photos Library in your user folder? And also a iPhoto Library.migratedphotoslibrary ?
Go to the App Store and check out the Purchases List. If iPhoto is there then it will be v9.6.1
If it is there, then drag your existing iPhoto app (not the library, just the app) to the trash
Install the App from the App Store.

Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.
Thanks for responding. Yes I migrated to Photos unintentionally when I installed the latest OS X upgrade. I want my old iPhoto back. iPhoto is still in my applications folder but can't be launched because it say I need to upgrade first.
I have deleted my iPhoto and am now reinstalling it from the App Store. It's under purchases (for most).
Maybe that one will run without that error, I will try in...5 minutes.
It worked! Thanks for the help. I appear to have my old app back. Do you know of any reason that I can't delete "Photos" app?
Check under Purchases if you have iPhoto there.
Move iPhoto.app to the trash -> reinstall iPhoto
Photos is part of 10.10.3 and can't be removed.
You can remove it but you'd need to use the Terminal to do it, so unless you have a desperate need of the space I wouldn't bother.
