Why are there TWO On My Mac, in the Archive Mailbox?

I am puzzled and confused.

The Archive "On My Mac" has two Mailboxes, on the MacBook Air 13", Yosemite 10.10.3; Mail version 8.2 (2098)

-- it seems by default:

Is there a good reason for this?

Are the TWO locations saving information and taking twice the space for there being what appears to be a duplication?!

If I want to remove one of these two, should I? -- and how to do so safely and hopefully easily?

Try and sign out of all accounts then sign back in.

Apple Care phone service says they are 'alias' because deleting one also deleted the other -- and so

they are not using twice the space. Does this make sense?

Which 'accounts' are you referring to and how does one 'sign out' of an account? Thank you
