Music disappeared from iPAD when tried "matching"

Can someone please advise where my music can be found please? I was given an option to Match my music when my intention was to sync music from my laptop and iPAD. All the music from my iPAD has disappeared now and I do not know where to find it. Meanwhile, the progress bar for my laptop "Match: is not moving and I am so worried that a collection I have built over 25 years is in jeopardy. Can someone please advise? This whole cloud business is exactly what it sounds like. Up in the air and not here on the ground where I need it to be.
