On my iPad Air 2, the type-ahead feature...

...just changed from displaying three choices below the entry area, to not showing that, but showing a single choice at a time right next to where text is being entered. Huh? Is there a setting somewhere that controls the type-ahead feature?

You are referring to Predictive text. If you look where those words generally appear, do you see a small white bar in the center of the screen? Try putting your finger there and swiping upwards to restore it. If you cannot do that, you can go down by the space bar to the Globe icon, press and hold and you should see the setting for Predictive text. You can turn if off and back on again, and it should reappear.

Wow. Thanks, Chris. That little smiling face icon goes straight to emoji symbols when you just tap it, but as you say holding it down without releasing it for a second makes it display three choices, one of which is to turn on and off the Predictive feature. The same on/off feature is available in setting > general > keyboard, as Avery says. One of many new features that Apple has cleverly managed to hide. 😕
