Airplay will only play out of one channel

Question

Airplay will only play out of one channel

My apple express seems to only be sending one channel through to my receiver.

So far I have tried:

- two different airbooks.

- One apple express (white square)

- two different cables (minijack to rca split)

- One Pioneer receiver VSX 815

- Two speakers. No subwoofer or other speakers.

Receiver plays LPs across in stereo.

Receiver plays right channel only from aex or from iphone split to rca cables.

Looking at the receiver it plays nothing when i select digital signal. If you put it on auto - it switches to analog and only plays right channel.

Sounds like the receiver is the problem.

but where?

anyone?

This is most likely a problem with your airport express, Hold down the button on the back of it with a pin for 10 seconds to restore it.

That did not work. Trying to play hendrix's exp via itunes with multiple airplay speakers - laptop and aex > receiver. laptop signal crossses from right to left. receiver still only one channel playing.

more investigation. i think both the airport express and the receiver have built-in digital analog converters. The AEX is converting digital > analog and sending it to the receiver. When I listen with headphones out from AEX, I get stereo. So it feels like this problem resides in the receiver somewhere...

To test the analog output of your AirPort Express temporarily connect a pair of stereo headphone to its audio port. Can you hear both channels now? If not, then either the audio source or the Express may be the cause.

Yes, the AirPort Express has an internal DAC. Its audio port is designed for dual-use: 1) Optical digital and 2) Analog. With the proper connectors (& cables) you can either send digital or analog streams to the device connected to its audio port.

Well, here's what worked. I plugged the same minijack > rca cable into the DVR input instead of cable, aux, etc. suddenly > stereo.

i don't know.
