iphoto albums lost

Got new Mac. Computer guy backed up old Mac to his back up device, then transferred all my data to new Mac. None of my pics or albums are in iPhoto. iPhoto help told me my pics are in finder. Yes, but about 5000 single pics jumbled in with another 5000 other types of files. Want my albums back. They were dated memories. Are my albums somewhere in tact, somewhere else?
