When transporting a MacPro (2009) is it necessary to "park" the hard drive? If so, how is that done?

As long as the computer is shut down normally just keep it upright during transportation.

Drives today are self-parking. No need for you to do anything. They do not need to be help upright for transportation, but they should be shutdown. Macs also have a Sudden Motion Sensor (SMS) that will park the drive automatically in the event of any sudden jolt such as a drop to the floor.
I might in some transportation cases remove the hdd sleds and pack those separate.
Even DIMMs have at times oddly enough gotten "knocked loose" in shipping (but not hand carry) though we do see where someone mved a Mac Pro and something went wrong, even GPU.
