Safari 8.0.6 fails to play flash video on some sites.

I have an iMac with OS X 10.10.3 and Safari 8.0.6.

Safari fails to play Flash video clips on some websites such as space.com - just an endless spinning button/circle.

Firefox does play those video clips without any problems.

I removed ~Library:Preferences:com.apple.safari.plist, restarted the iMac and Safari. It didn't fix the issue so, I put it back.

Can anybody help me please?

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.3), Safari 8.0.6

1. System Preferences > Flash Player > Advanced > Delete All

Press the "Delete All" button under “Browsing Data and Settings”.

Install Adobe Flash Player.

http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

Download it first.

The next step is important.

Click Safari in the menubar and select “Quit Safari”.

Follow the prompts and install it.

Restart computer. Relaunch Safari.

2. Allow Plug-ins

Safari > Preferences > Security

Internet Plug-ins > "Allow plug-ins"

Enable it.

3. Safari > Preferences > Privacy > Cookies and website data:

Press the “ Remove All Website Data” button.

Hi Dominic,

1. I did delete and reinstall the Flash Player.

2. "Allow plug-ins" was already enabled.

3. I didn't remove all website data because I needed some of the data.

but, what I forgot to mention in my first post was that I also had ClickToFlash.

It turned out to be misconfigured. I changed these:

ticked ClickToFlash > General > Load Flash if HTML5 conversion fails

ticked ClickToFlash > General > Use HTML5 media fallback

un-ticked ClickToFlash > Media Player > Default media player > HTML5 > Load media player automatically

ticked ClickToFlash > Media Player > Default media player > HTML5 > Show preview image

selected ClickToFlash > Media Player > Nonnative formats policy > Use only as a last resort (instead of "Never use as default")

ticked ClickToFlash > Media Player > Initial behavior > Instant autoplay

ticked ClickToFlash > Media Player > Source Selector > include media sources

ticked ClickToFlash > Media Player > Source Selector > Include Flash

By reinstalling the Flash Player and changing some ClickToFlash settings, I fixed playing flash videos on the sites I couldn't before.

Many thanks for your help.
