Trackpad at macbook pro cracked

Trackpad at my 13" macbook pro ( 2011 model) cracked 6 months ago and i have to use an external mouse. Just a few days, the bottom base left cover of the macbook pro opened up and bent with gap of 6mm wide. Please see photos attached. Is it due to manufacturing defects and how should I do next? Please advise on the next course of action.

Thanks.

What does your battery status say? This type of damage is often caused by a swollen battery. Check its status; if it says that it needs service or something similar, do not use the laptop or remove the battery and take it to your nearest Genius Bar.

FWIW, you posted in the Mac Pro desktop forum - I'll ask the hosts to move your post.
