Cannot install Yosemite

Cannot install Yosemite

I have checked all the things that I can think of and I should be able to install Yosemite but it still says cannot install on my HD. I have an iMac 24" that was built in april of 2008. 4 GB of memory and running 10.6.8. I have repaired disc and permissions and updated all software. After a long download from app store I get the message that "OSX cannot be installed on "Macintosh HD" Also a popup "This disk cannot be used to start up your computer." I have 149GB available.

Checkout this support article, Installer reports "OS X could not be installed on your computer" or "This disk cannot be used to start up your computer"…

Open Disk Utility and check to be sure your startup drive is Journaled, using GUID, and is formatted Mac OS Extended, Journaled.

Open Disk Utility and check to be sure your startup drive is Journaled, using GUID, and is formatted Mac OS Extended, Journaled.

I checked this and it is Ma OS extended, journaled and couldn't see anything that indicated GUID

Check that your computer is compatible with Mountain Lion/Mavericks/Yosemite.

To check the model number hold down the option/alt key, go to the Apple menu and select System Information.

iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) model number 7,1 or higher

I finally got it installed. I turned off time machine and it started to install. I did a lot of other things that were suggested on the net but I think that is the on that allowed me to install. Thanks for all the advise here.
