Q: Restarting problem: Macbook Pro, 15-inch, Mid 2010.

My Mid 2010 15-inch Macbook Pro running Yosemite 10.10.3 keeps restarting intermittently.

There does not seem to be any pattern to the issue (i.e. I have not notices it occurring more when performing certain tasks on my computer)

From memory the stages of the issue are as follows:

During use the screen will go black.

The computer will make a mechanical startup noise (CD drive?) followed by the Apple booting sound.

It will then display an error on a grey screen, in a few languages it will state there has been an error and will need to be restarted" and to press a key or wait.

The screen will then go black again and will again play the Apple booting sound.

Computer will then start normally and go to the login screen.

I have tried to reset PRAM and some other reset (that I cannot specifically recall), I have also reformatted the computer which has had no positive effect.
