Q: How do I restore my MBP from time machine after installing new hard drive?
So I installed a new hard drive today. I used to be running Mavericks but rebooted on the Snow Leopard disk I had. Unfortunately, I cannot seem to upgrade to Mavericks (since apparently, they pulled it). I cannot even upgrade to Yosemite because I cannot get the App Store - my OS is too old. So its too old to do anything, yet I can't access the new OS either. I have time machine backups on an external USB hard drive. I also have my old hard drive in an enclosure. How do I copy my old drive onto my new drive? This is driving me crazy!! I have been working on this all day (upgrading and putting programs back on where I can), and now I am thinking I may have to erase and start all over. UGH! I am not an expert at this kind of stuff; in fact, its the first time I have ever replaced a hard drive or anything like that. Is there some easy way with an easy tutorial?

Is the 'old' HDD functional with Mavericks on it? Can it boot the MBP when connected externally via USB?
If so, boot the MBP from the 'old' external HDD, open Disk Utility>Erase and reformat the new internal HDD to Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
Then open Disk Utility>Restore. Select the external HDD as the Source and the internal HDD as the Destination. Click on the Restore button.
Depending upon the amount of data that you have, this may take several hours.
When finished, restart the MBP.
Ciao.
