add an application shortcut to Launchpad???

Is there a way to add shortcuts to Launchpad for apps that are stored on an external hard drive?

What happens if you drag the application to Launchpad? Does it appear and does it work?

To be honest, I never even considered dragging - first thing I thought of was to to Google the problem and all I could find was how to create a Launchpad shortcut. 😝
