finding and deleting flash cookies in OSX Yosemite

Hello,

I use Safari or FireFox as a browser. Recently I read a lot about the so-called LSO's or Flash cookies.

Where are they stored on my Mac, how can I find and delete them, and is it possible to prevent them from being installed on my computer ? Do I need root privileges for that ?

I have been looking for a directory called :

~/Library/Preferences/Macromedia/Flash Player/#SharedObjects

and

~/Library/Preferences/Macromedia/Flash Player/macromedia.com/support/flashplayer/sys/

but I can't find them. Either a) they do not exist, or b) I have no right to see them.

In my Safari Preferences, I allow cookies from the sites I visit, and I deny websites using my location.

From time to time, if I do not forget, I empty my cache.

I have Java-script enabled, and allow some web-site plugins, like Silverlight, Java, Quicktime, WebEx 64, Google Earth.

Any help will be greatly appreciated,

WB

In your System Preferences, there is an Adobe Flash panel. There are two tabs on this panel that you should visit:

  • Storage
    • Privacy controls that regulate the degree of Flash storage (All, Ask, or Block all
    • A Delete All… button that lets you delete all site data and settings
  • Advanced

Browsing Data and Settings that has a Delete All… button that removes this stuff

It is likely that the two deletion methods above clean out Adobe Flash specific directories in your local ~/Library/Preferences/Macromedia, and ~/Library/Caches/Adobe/Flash Player locations.
