USB Ethernet MacBook Air

I am running the latest mac OSX (OSX Yosemite 10.10.3). I have been doing some research into making my own USB to Ethernet cable. I have mad one and i am wondering how you would select the interface option in system preferences > network > + . When i have clicked the plus sign at the bottom of the internet list it asks me for a interface. The USB Ethernet option is not there. Any Suggestions why?
