Bought used IPod Nano

We recently just bought an used IPod Nano off EBay. The old owner still had music on it and aren't able to clear it. Is there any way we can clean the IPod without trying to transfer the music (yes, I know that's stealing I'm trying to refrain from doing anything like that). Is there anyway we can clear the IPod or are we just out of luck and need to sent it back?
