virus HELP

my mac popped up with a page that said VIRUS FOUND and said i got it from a website i visited and it needs to scan the computer and find it, is that pop up from my mac or is it a virus wanting to scan?

Quit or force quit Safari, then restart Safari while holding the Shift key.
