Q: My iMac does not connect to ATT's Uverse high speed internet

Hi, my iMac does not connect to ATT Uverse internet service. I tried their customer support many times with only temporary success. After they ajust my service remotely the internet works fine for about 10-20 minutes, and then stop working. I can't updload pages and keep getting the message that I am not connected to the Internet, even though the wireless signal is at maximum strenght.

All my other devices are working fine, including two iphones and an ipad. I have purchased high speed internet (18 Mbps). Problem started after I moved and switched from Comcast to ATT Uverse high speed internet.

Any help will be great at this stage.

Thank you,

Leonardo Fleck

even though the wireless signal is at maximum strenght.

Can you get on the net if using ethernet?

    System Preferences>Network

    Click the Assist Me button.

In the next window that pops up, click the Diagnostic button & do the necessary.

    Macintosh HD>System>Library>Coreservices>Applications

Double click on the Wireless Diagnostic.app & follow the onscreen instructions. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202663 About Wireless Diagnostics

Please post back the results in detail.

We had AT&T DSL for years and while slow, it always worked perfectly. Then last year AT&T forced us to switch to U-Verse (what a joke). It was less than half as fast as their old DSL service and we had nothing but problems. In our area we only have two choices for wired service (2 wire AT&T phone lines or Comcast) and those are out back in the alley way on polls. Sadly about a month ago I switch back to Comcast for Internet Service after dumping them years ago for charging to much on there cable TV service.

    To add to the shame:

With the old AT&T's DSL service, I used to have a steady and reliable 1.8 Mbps.

With AT&T's U-Verse service, I had an un-stable .75 Mbps (less than half of their old DSL service)

With Comcast I now have a very steady 60 Mbps, and with multiple devices using the service at the same time.

I would stay on AT&T's backside... Then if they fail to fix the problem, I would drop them and go back to Comcast or if possible someone else.

Go to the top of the screen on the right hand side and click on the Wireless signal icon and click it. Then it will show all of your choices, Airport or Wireless Ethernet, If it is wireless that you choose then make sure that it is at the top of the list and there is a green dot, If not drag it to the top. of the list. If you are close enough to your Modem Router then I would choose Ethernet and have the faster wired connection. Remember the same holds true for the Green dot and ethernet is at the top of the list. If your network has been established and you didn't give it a name it will probably be a number like ATT-958 make sure you write it down and I recommend you Password protect and activate WPA security to your Network.
