May 31, 2015 12:24 PM in response to Averythomasby Rick Mansfield,Did you use a crossover cable or two separate cables and a hub? Or will a regular cable between the two machines work?

May 31, 2015 12:59 PM in response to Rick Mansfieldby Lanny,Crossover cables are not needed. However, you would need 2 Ethernet adapters and probaly a USB-C to USB adapter.
The easiest approach is to use a cloned or time machine backup on a USB3 external drive with the USB-C to USB adapter.
I used a cloned backup, something that I have as a matter of routine, with Setup Assistant on my new Retina MacBook. It only took about 2 hours to complete.
