Hey matcrz!

Could you describe more of the problem you are facing?

For example, which of these scenarios (approximately) is happening to you?

(a) It simply freezes up when I click a song to play, and nothing plays; i.e., I don't hear anything, and the iPod doesn't respond to any buttons.

(b) When I click on a song title on my iPod, it automaitcally restarts itself, showing the Apple logo on screen for a few seconds.

(c) When I click on the first song in an album, for example, it skips to the 2nd, then 3rd song, 4th, 5th, until it hits the end (this skipping process takes only a few seconds).

(d) I click on a song, and it plays on my iPod (I can see the seconds ticking along as it plays), but I cannot hear anything coming out of my ear buds!

(e) When I click on a song for the iPod to play, it freezes for a moment, then instantly jumps back to the main menu without playing the song.

That's just some samples of fairly common scenarios. If yours is any of those, tell me which one it is, and any additional info on your iPod's behaivor.

If niether of those possibilities is what's happening, then, again, post back with the details of what's happening with your iPod.

Hey again, matcrz,

Okay, have you tried resetting your iPod? Hold the "Menu" and center buttons together for about 7 seconds before letting off; this restarts your iPod (won't delete any music off of it).

Also, if this doesn't suceed, have you considered a restore?

To restore, follow these steps:
1 - Connect your iPod to your computer.
2 - In iTunes, click on your iPod in the left-source panel.
3 - Under the "Summary" tab (near the top), you should see a "Restore" button in the right-area of iTunes. Click "Restore", and proceed to do so (note that this will delete all the content off your iPod).

Also, this may be your iPod's firmware problem. Have you tried reinstalling your iPod's firmware? For the details on doing that, read this Support article -> "Firmware file was corrupt" - reinstalling your iPod's firmware

I have a similar problem too...
My ipod will just skip through ALL my songs and not play anything.
I used to have it set to a PC, but then switched it over a Mac a couple months ago, I thought everything went well, but all of a sudden it did this. Even when my ipod is conected to my computer and I try to play a song on it, it just has an exclamation mark on the left side- nothing plays!!

Hey jw206,

when my ipod is conected to my computer and I try to play a song on it, it just has an exclamation mark on the left side

An exclamation point next to a song (most of the time) means that the source is not found.

Connect your iPod.
In iTunes, click on your iPod in the left panel.
Click on the "Music" tab (near the top panel).

Are you on "automatically sync" or "manually manage music"?

matcrz,

Okay, is it this part of the article that's an issue?:

"In Windows, the folder is:

C:\Documents and Settings\yourusername\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Software Updates"

Can you find that folder? If you can't, then be sure to check if your "show hidden files and folders" option is set:

1. Open My Computer.
2. From the Tools menu, choose Folder Options.
3. Click the View tab.
4. In the Advanced Settings pane, select the "Show hidden files and folders" button.
5. Click OK.

So, now, let's see if you can find the folder, by following this path:

C:/Documents and Settings/ yourWindowsusername/Application Data/Apple Computer/iTunes/iPod Software Updates

Now, if you find "iPod Software Updates", delete that folder. (click the "Delete" key on your keyboard, or drag the folder to a Trash bin).

Then, connect your iPod, and go to update your iPod with the latest software again in iTunes.

Hey justinpenny!

Yes, let's go ahead and start you out with your own new topic.

To start a new one, go here, and this is the link you click on in the upper-left area of the screen:

Also, could you describe a little more exactly what you'd previously done, if you have any info of what happened before this problem occured? (On your new thread).
Thanks, it just helps us more easily identify what to do.

Check the battery charge--- Make sure it’s OK
Do a manual Reset on IPOD--by selecting
Menu and Center simultaneously, for about 6 seconds.
You may have to do this several times.
re-try IPOD
Make sure your Windows software is up-to-date.
Make sure your running the correct software version for your IPOD.
If this doesn’t’ work---

Do the 5 R’s as instructed in the Apples manual.
