Tried to update iPad about 6 months ago and it shut it down. Have been forced to do a hard reset today and everything is gone. We did not have the cloud on the iPad. (Yes that wasn't smart) Any help?
What do you mean by a hard reset? That is not part of the user troubleshooting vocabulary. The next question, had you done a backup of the device with iTunes on the computer before doing any of this troubleshooting?

May 31, 2015 6:01 PM in response to ChrisJ4203by juliein_nc,This is what was being displayed on the iPad. I followed numerous directions trying to re-sync the iPad with my iTunes account. iTunes did not recognize it - even though it displayed the serial number. The only choice I had to to reset to factory settings and no, it had not been backed up to a computer. Can the pictures be recovered? Either by Apple or some other software?

May 31, 2015 6:20 PM in response to juliein_ncby ChrisJ4203,Only if they had been synced somewhere, maybe iCloud, Photo Stream? That screenshot is Recovery Mode. While you probably don't want to hear it, this is why you back up the device regularly, especially if there is content on it that you do not want to lose. Take the time now to set up regular backup, either with iCloud or iTunes and follow that. You can backup daily with iCloud by connecting the device to power and Wi-Fi, it will do it automatically. That requires no other intervention by you after the initial setup.

May 31, 2015 6:29 PM in response to ChrisJ4203by juliein_nc,Yes - The cloud is on the iPad as well as the iPhones. There are sites for software that claim they can recover - scam?
