Q: How to set startup password (OS 10.4)?

Good evening.

How do I set the password option that appears when the computer is first turned on?

I have never used this option before, but I need it for traveling.

Not sure, but if you are NOT referring to your admin account password, then you probably mean the Firmware Password: Setting up firmware password protection in Mac OS X.

The actual sequence is:

System Prefs > accounts > password > login options:
disable auto log in
display login window: Name and Password

Hard to know because you question wasn't worded well. Two possible answers - I guessed wrong. I had a 50% chance of guessing right.
