Q: Assigning location to digital photo in new Photos software

Back when I used iPhoto, when I uploaded a photo taken from my regular Canon digital camera, I was able to add a location manually to the photo.  I am having trouble figuring out how to do this in the new Photos software.  Has anyone figured it out?

iMac (27-inch, Late 2013), OS X Yosemite (10.10)

Yes - it is very simple - that is not a feature of photos at this time - you have to do any GPS addition or modification prior to import - I use HoudahGeo for this when I need it

Outrageous that Apple would remove this feature... I guess it's a way to push folks to Aperture

They didn't remove the feature. Photos is a brand new program built with brand new structure and focus. Versions 1.0 and 1.0.1 do not yet have that feature. Apple has announced that the version of Photos that will ship with OS X El Capitan in the fall will have facilities for adjusting locations and better sort features.

Oh, and Apple isn't interested in pushing anybody to Aperture. They have stopped developing and selling Aperture along with iPhoto.

Thank you for taking the time to share this info.  I just scanned about 500 pics into Photo.  Will wait for the autumn.  I actually tried to buy Aperture as I know it has the location feature but found out it's not for sale in Canada.

Assigning location to a picture still doesn't work. When typing in the location, the words just disappear. Any ideas?

When you say it "still" doesn't work, what version of OS X are you running? What version of Photos?

    Hello Markwmsn

I am using OSX El Capitan 10.11.2 and Photos 1.3(350.23.0). When I say "still doesn't work", I tried all the ideas suggested above. I have also found out since, that I should have assigned location prior to exporting my library from Aperture to Photos.

But . . . is there a way around that obstacle?

    thanks

Of course - with Photos 1.3 under OS X 10.11.2 you can easily assign locations

As a test Launch Photo while holding down the option key and create a new library does it work there?

Thanks Larry. I have just re-opened Photos and managed to assign a location to a number of my photos without the letters disappearing as I wrote.

Maybe my Mac was having a Bad Hair Day yesterday!

    Thanks again.
