My iPod 5th generation is not being recognized by iTunes 12, Yosemite

I would like to start using my iPod 5th Generation again and want to update my music. I cannot get iTunes to recognize it. It will charge up when plugged into the desktop, but doesn't show up in the iTunes window or the hard drive devises list.

I understand your iPod touch is not being recognized by your Mac with iTunes 12. Have you updated the iPod touch to the latest version of iOS? It is one of the troubleshooting steps outlined in the resource below:
