not enough room to backup

cannot backup to icloud. cannot backup on mac due to not enough space - but cannot do on Windows pc either - get same space warning - i def. have enough space on my work PC and itunes was a brand new install so why does itunes think I dont! I need a solution as deleted prvious backups in case they were corrupt.
