Shift+p and Shift+m not working

I am having a problem with producing a capital p and m using shift. I can type a lower case p and m, but shift+p or shift+m do not work. I need to hit caps lock to get a capital letter. I tried a buying a new keyboard as well which did not solve the problem. I also looked at preferences and did not see anything. please help?
