Can I use an unlocked iPhone 5 with a SIM purchased in another country

I will be travelling in Europe this summer. I have an iPhone 5 purchased in the UK. It is currently locked to EE. If I get it unlocked in the UK, can I use the phone with a SIM card purchased in the countries I will be travelling in (Netherlands,Switzerland, Austria and Italy)?
