Bluetooth is connected in settings and on AirPlay but speakers aren't giving any sound?

I am using the Sony SRS-X3 speakers. When connected with a 3.5mm cord, they function great. I've paired with both my iPad and iPhone and have no sound coming from the speakers. Bluetooth shows connected and AirPlay shows connected to the Sony SRS-X3. Why is there no sound from the speakers when connected to Bluetooth?

I am having a similar problem. It just started in the last month. I get sound when I connect my iPad Air 2 but no sound when I connect my iPhone 6s. I've tried disconnecting and forgetting device. It doesn't help.

Does anyone have a solution?
