subgroup in contacts on macbook pro osx 10.9.5

subgroup in contacts on macbook pro osx 10.9.5 accepts entries but they do not save or go across icloud or save in the subgroup, the entry show only on all contacts, if i move the contact to another subgroup it updates but still not in the intended. i have over 3400 contacts in the subgroup.
