Originally snow leopard, upgraded to Maverick, few months later hard drive failure, re-installed from time machine. Now OS X, pages will not update and I have many documents that will not open. What should I do?

Hard drive failure, re-installed from time machine now pages does not update and OS is different. What do I do to get pages to update? I can't re-install Maverick.
