Why does xpcproxy need access to my contacts?

Reference: OS X 10.10.3 System Prefs > Security & Privacy > Privacy > Contacts

Several apps want access to my contacts. One of them is "xpcproxy".

I don't normally allow apps to access my contacts, but xpcprosy is an OS X system process, apparently. What happens if I deny access for xpcproxy?

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Yosemite (10.10.3)
