Playing time-line and events video is jerking. It has never done this before. I just created more space on the drive but it didn't help.
Other video, not in FCP is not jerking.

That's usually a throughput problem. What are the specs of the media in the QT player inspector window, and what drive specs are you using?
In FCP inspector it says 1440X1080 / 29.97p codecs: Linear PCM, XDCAM HD 1080p30 Audio rate 48kHz
My camera is 1920X1080 30p I have iPhone - perhaps an iPhone is 1440. I thought things were set by first video in the timeline - but the event window video is jerking too.
AN iPhone doesn't shoot XDCAM HD. It's a Sony format. Unusual for Sony 1440 media to not be interlaced. It should be 29.97.
YOu didn't say anything about the drive. What drive? How is it connected? How big, how much free space?
The external USB connected Toshiba drive is EXfat 2 TB with 1.6 available. Wait a minute Was this not formatted correctly?
Should it be "...Journaled" ? I recently transferred the library from iMAC HD drive to the external drive.
UUsually Mac OS Extended is preferred, but ExFAT should work. Is the drive USB3?

The event video and the time line video stutters every two seconds.

OK I trashed a clip in events, then I moved the same Toshiba clip to another drive then imported it to events. It is not stuttering.
So it must be the Toshiba drive, No?
PProbably. You don't know what the spin speed of the drive is do you? 5400 or 7200? That might be a factor. You might also try reformatting it, though it really shouldn't matter.
So the drive is USB3…is it connected to your computer's USB3 port or to a USB2 port?

In the Apple menu select About This Mac. Click on System Report. In the sidebar select USB and see what it says.

No mac with a Core 2 Duo processor had USB3, so there you have it. Your connection at only USB2 speed is probably the bottleneck.
