I would like to insert a PDF or JPEG file as a link in a Pages for Mac document but do not know how. I have the latest version of Pages 5.5.3 and I also do not know how to install Pages 09 if that is the only solution,

There is no document object web link capability in Pages v5.5.3. You can achieve this with some creative steps as I have outlined in my post from last year.
