how to restore files from backup G-slim to MacBook osx 10.7.3?

How does one restore files form my back up drive, a G drive Slim, to my macBook OSx lion 10.7.3? The only thing listed in the table of contents for the manual is the "restoration of the Icon on my task bar" but that is not my problem. Why can't I restore my files it by clicking on the G drive in Finder? This stupid problem is killing me. Appreciate your help. Truly
