why can't I make an event "private" in iCal ?

why can't I make an event "private" in iCal ?

I can see that many people have posted about this in the forum but there doesn't seem to be any answers. All online calendars that I have used previously all have the facility to make an event private, so if my whole calendar is shared with people at work, my husband, my children there are certain events that I could make private and no-one else could see. I can't seem to find this option anywhere in iCal which is unbelievable if you are able to share calendars.

Does anyone know if this is possible and if it isn't

Apple you need to add this facility to your calendar or you will be losing users.....

I think you only can mark events private when they are administered through a CalDAV or Exchange server.

I would never put a private event into a shared calendar. I have shared calendars and a calendar for my own.

And people I know just handle it the same way.
