System unresponsive, restarts automatically

Hi Team,

My system is unresponsive at times. It has restarted more than 10 times, in between my purchase of my macbook pro 3 months back.

There is a lag, 1. In switching applications. 2. using applications- scrolling, clicking buttons, etc 3. Office applications are really slow.

More importantly it just restarts automatically, leaving behind my on going work.

Processor 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5

Memory 4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

Follow these steps:

- Shut down your Mac

- Wait until your computer turns off and after that press the Power button

- Right after you hear the startup tone, press and hold the Shift key

- Release the Shift key when you see a grey Apple sign and the progress bar below this sign

- Once you see Desktop, start a Disk Utility scan to detect and repair file system errors (don't forget to choose your main hard drive)

- Click on Verify Disc and then, if asked to fix problems, on Repair Disk

- After this, click on Verify Disk Permissions and then on Repair Disk Permissions

- After the process is finished, shut down your Mac and turn it back on after about 30 seconds

Run this and post the results here so we know more about your configuration.

More memory will help since 4 GB is really not enough
